Background
Susana needed to rebuild her website. The images that survived from her earlier site were too small to show her work properly, and an artist's portfolio is judged on exactly that. The new site had to give the work room, describe every piece accurately, and serve the curators, galleries, and collectors who look her up.
What we built
- Six galleries organized by material: geosynthetic installations; iron and mixed media; netting, pulp, and resin; bone and ceramic; wood, bark, and found materials; and photography, glass, and metal.
- A full-screen viewer that respects the work. Each piece opens on its whole view and then steps through its details before moving to the next work, with materials and dimensions in the caption. It works fully from the keyboard.
- Accurate records: every work carries its year, materials, dimensions, and exhibition history, taken from her own documents.
- Her own words: her artist statement as she wrote it, and a full CV covering her education, exhibitions from 1992 to 2025, and collections, with a downloadable PDF.
- Jewelry as a separate line, reached from the menu so it never competes with the main body of work.
Every image is optimized and shown at or below its native size, so nothing is stretched, and wide panoramic works get a full row of their own.
A collaborative process
Susana reviewed the site in rounds, and her notes shaped it. She asked to see the details of each work before moving to the next, and the viewer was rebuilt around that. She chose the order of the galleries, how each work should be captioned, and which photographs lead. The site went live on WordPress, so her work and text can be updated without rebuilding it.
The result
Susana's work now has a portfolio that matches it: large, accurate, and organized the way she thinks about her materials. It is live at susanasugar.art.
Shrikant was wonderful with rebuilding my website. Attentive, helpful and fully supportive with so much patience and dedication that helped me go through all the challenges. I have all the trust in the world in him and the whole team.
